Caucus Countdown: GOP candidates pound the pavement, talk to voters across the state of Iowa
Republican presidential candidates are pounding the pavement in Iowa in the weeks leading up to the first-in-the-nation caucuses.
Here’s a look at the candidates:
Ryan Binkley
Texas pastor and businessman Ryan Binkley was in Grinnell Thursday afternoon to do what his campaign called a “Mainstreet walk.” He stopped at a local coffee shop to introduce himself to people there, and then took his campaign strategy outside. He walked from business to business in downtown Grinnell to talk with locals about what issues matter most to them.
The campaign said name recognition has been their biggest challenge. That’s why they say having face-to-face interactions has been their main strategy.
“It’s all about meeting people where they’re at,” Morgan Bonwell, state director for the Binkley campaign, said. “Going into people’s family rooms like we’re doing today, just walking store to store and meeting people.”
Another campaign member said, “Once people meet Ryan, hear his message, then they’ll want to support him.”
Binkley also spoke with voters in Newton Thursday night. His campaign said he’ll practically be living in the state until the caucuses. They want to finish in the top four on Jan. 15.
Binkley sits at zero percent in Iowa, according to the latest poll from the Des Moines Register, NBC News and Mediacom.
