Ryan Binkley’s still running. Here’s what he’s hoping for in New Hampshire.
In the lobby of the Doubletree in downtown Manchester, I just sat for an exclusive interview with one of the last remaining Republican presidential candidates. It wasn’t Donald Trump or Nikki Haley.
While those two are gearing up for their respective rallies tonight in Laconia and Salem, I walked by a table where Ryan Binkley was downing a hot tea and honey with a side of Advil. Lot of late nights on the trail, the Texas pastor said.
Binkley, despite having next to zero national name ID, managed to outperform former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson in the Iowa caucuses. (They’ve met and texted several times, he said.) Binkley earned 0.7 percent support. His only goal is to do better in New Hampshire, where Binkley has mostly spent his time around Manchester and Concord.
“Listen, if we get a few points, it’d be fine,” Binkley said of Tuesday’s primary. “You know, we’re just looking to move on.”
He has already planned his trip out to Nevada, where he and Trump will be caucusgoers’ only remaining options Feb. 8. Haley registered for the state-run primary, rather than the Nevada GOP’s caucuses that will award delegates at the Republican convention this summer.
“Nikki Haley signed up for the wrong thing,” Binkley said.
